I. Selecting the resize mode
Click “Resize Mode” tab to set the way your images will be resized. Resizing options are self-explanatory. Although if you are in doubt, help tags are there to give you more information and sometimes quick tips.
To set the new image size, move the sliders to the desired value. If the resize mode is set to "Adjust to width”, the vertical slider is disabled.
When the resize mode is set to "crop", two other sliders will appear to set the visible portion. One of these two sliders is always disabled, since the software crops the size (height or width) that does not fit to the new proportion of the resized image.
II. Selecting "Source" and "Destination" Folder
For security reasons, your Source Folder must always be different from your Destination folder (where the saved resized images are).
By default, resized images will be automatically saved in the folder "My Resized Images" under your application main directory. However you can change your destination folder at any time.
You can select your "Source" and "Destination " folders from the "File menu" or by clicking the appropriate button right below the listbox.
III. How things work?
When you resize a batch of images, and for whatever reason you are not satisfied with the result, you can try again without having to empty the Destination Folder. Newly resized images will replace the older ones.
The application will ignore loading images from the selected Destination folder, because this would lead to the replacement of the original images by their copies.
Whenever you change your destination folder, any image in the listbox that might has been previously loaded from it, will be automatically removed from the listbox. This explains why resized images that are dragged to the listbox are rejected... unless they are removed from the destination folder.
When you load a new folder, previous lisbox rows will be removed. If images are dragged individually or grouped, they will be added to the list.
Two important things to point out:
1- It is not possible to have in the listbox several images with the same name, even if they are located in different folders. The application will ignore any image with a name already in use in the listbox.
2- Any file in the "Destination folder " with a name that can be used by a resized image, will be deleted and replaced by the new image.
IV. Saving resized images
Click “Resize All” to process listed images... or “Resize This” to simply resize the selected image.
V. Easy access to resized images
To open the destination folder (where resized images are saved), just click on "File menu > Open Destination Folder" or Right-Click on the lisbox, then select "Show Destination folder".
VI. Adding Watermark
Select Watermark tab then check “Enable watermark”. Set the text you want for your watermark as well as its color, transparency, position etc. If you need more options or to add a logo, click the icon “more…” on the right side.
All settings are self-explanatory, except maybe for “Link Watermark to bottom” checkbox.
What does the checkbox "Link watermark to bottom"?
Let's assume the case of a dozen images to resize at the same width. Original image sizes are different and, in addition, have different W/H ratios. When resized to the same width, they nevertheless keep their proportions with different heights. Now assuming that one wishes to place watermark at the very bottom of the resized images, or, why not, at 20 pixels above the bottom edge. In this case, default setting "Link watermark to bottom" is set to have the watermark always at the same position relatively to the bottom... Whatever resized images heights are, the application will always count 20 pixels above the bottom edge.
In the other way, if we want to place watermark at the top of each resized images, we need to tell the application that watermark has to be positioned relatively to the top by unchecking "Link watermark to bottom" checkbox.
VII. Renaming resized images
By default, renaming options are disabled. So if you need them, you have to click the appropriate checkbox on the "Naming" tab.
"Naming tab" may sound scary at first sight. But it shouldn’t, because you can preview each setting effects. Just click “View All” button to popup the preview naming window. Change whatever you want and see instantly the result. And don’t worry, no file will be renamed. It’s just a preview...
Renaming settings will only be applied to resized pictures when later you click the “resize” button on the main window.
Naming Preview Window will also indicate any issue with wrong or duplicated names. Red bullets for wrong names, orange bullets for duplicated one and green bullets for accepted names.
All renaming settings have their help tags.
VIII. Using the html Image Map builder
Html image map is generally created to provide an easy way to hyperlink various parts of an image (in our case thumbnails) to other destinations (original images) without dividing the image map into separate image files.
Berberus mass image Resizer can easily build such html image map. Open Image Map Builder window from file menu, and drag-and-drop images you whish to map.
Enter your web server image folder path (see below) and click "Draw image map" button. That’s how easy. Of course, there is a bunch of other settings like adding strokes, background color, padding, number of columns etc. When you change these settings, your map is updated automatically. Once satisfied with your image map, click save image map.
Even after drawing your image map, you can still edit it before saving.
a.- You can ignore or remove any thumb you whish
What is the difference between removing and ignoring thumbs?
- Removing a thumb is not undoable.
- But when you “ignore” a thumb, you can redraw it as long as it is not removed from the listbox or the canvas.
- Ignored thumbs will still there until you click redraw image map or choose from the contextual menu “Remove all ignored thumbs”. Nevertheless, if ever you need to reinsert a removed thumb, you have to drag-and-drop again its image file on the listbox, then click redraw image map.

c. - You can reedit the Web server image folder path
To allow Berberus to build the image map, you need to specify the web server destinations path via the “Web server image folder path" field.
By default, the application inserts a destination path relative to the user computer, allowing him to test his html map locally. Therefore, if you intend to use your html image map on your computer, leave the web server path field with the var named “[This_Computer_Path]”. Otherwise, if you intend to publish the image map on your blog or web server, you have to insert the web server path where original images are uploaded. Example: if your images will be served from a folder named "myPictures" in the "upload" folder under your blog root directory, then insert "/upload/myPictures/" without quotes. If your blog is served by WordPress, then this path should be something like: "/wp-content/uploads/YourImagesFolder/"
For maximum flexibility, the html map data is updated in real time so that user can switch instantly between his computer path and his web server path. At any time, user can right-click to insert/reinsert local variable “[This_Computer_Path]”.
An html image map can also be used for various purposes and not necessarily to hyperlink to other images. You can for example create an image map where each thumb links to webpage or any other location. In this case you have to modify manually each link. To do so, and because the html data field is not editable by the user, you can copy-paste this data to any text editor and modify it to fit your needs.
